Since 2009, the ENL Foundation is dedicated to empowering sustainable and inclusive communities across Mauritius. As we celebrate the Foundation's 15th anniversary, we are proud to reflect on our impact in regions such as Cité Sainte Catherine, Telfair, Moka, Vuillemin, Alma, Pailles/GRNW, l’Escalier, and Le Bouchon. To mark this milestone, we have organised workshops with community members in each of these regions to share the findings of the impact report conducted by an independent agency. These sessions also provided an opportunity for community members to share their reflections and collaboratively shape the future of our community development initiatives.
Over these 15 years, the ENL Foundation has reached over 10,000 people across the targeted regions, significantly enhancing community welfare. The Foundation has facilitated the establishment of five community-based organisations which have been pivotal in empowering communities. With the support of more than 20 partners and funders over the last five years, the ENL Foundation offers a variety of programmes for both adults and children focused on empowerment, community development, socio-economic growth, education and employability. These efforts have improved the quality of life, increased economic opportunities, and strengthened community bonding.
The workshops commemorating the 15th anniversary of the ENL Foundation provided an opportunity for reflection on past progress and planning for the future. Community members reviewed the developments in their region, offered invaluable feedback and shared their vision for the future. It was a moment to recognise the empowerment and independence that communities have gained, reinforcing our commitment to work collaboratively for continued growth.
In addition to the workshops, the ENL Foundation organised creative sessions during which children drew their vision of the future for their communities, expressing their hopes and dreams. Their artwork was then displayed at the workshops, as a visual representation of the younger generation’s aspirations and serving as inspiration for future projects.
Priscille Noël, Head of Social Impact at ENL Group, shares her thoughts:
We were very pleased to see the willingness and readiness of community members to take initiatives that help their regions thrive. Furthermore, there is a collective desire to continue advancing these efforts with the ENL Foundation, albeit in new and innovative ways.
