Land is a strategic resource that ENL uses to fuel its growth. The group owns 21,500 arpents in Moka, Savannah and in Bel Ombre - Case Noyale.
Most of this land asset is put to agricultural use; about 5% is being developed into smart cities, offices and shopping malls. We also leverage our land asset to seed the next generation of growth drivers for the group. After successfully establishing Turbine as a business incubator and accelerator, we are investing in the production of renewable energy.
ENL strategically manages the 23,000 acres of land it owns to improve its capacity to generate income, and to support growth in existing and/or new sectors of activity.
Most of the land is used for agriculture and farming. We also leverage this asset to raise finance for the group. About 1,000 acres are currently being developed into mixed-use real estate.
We are building homes, offices and commercial facilities in the Centre and the South of Mauritius. Our real estate activities bring premium infrastructure to the market, add value to existing neighbourhoods, and generate sustainable rental income for our group.
ENL is gearing up to become a key player in the production of power from renewable sources. We have made our first steps in the sector by setting up EnVolt to produce electricity from solar energy. Our solar farms are set on the rooftops of hotels, offices and commercial buildings.
We are now looking at diversifying the economic use of our land through the production of clean electricity from ground-mounted solar farms. We have acquired a majority stake in Ecoasis, a local integrated energy solutions provider, to strengthen our grip on this line of activity.
Entrepreneurship is part of our DNA and we believe in transmitting our know-how and experience to future generations of entrepreneurs.
We created Turbine in 2016, an incubator and start-up accelerator that helps aspiring entrepreneurs turn ideas into reality and early-stage businesses into thriving, successful companies. We offer entrepreneurs the mentoring and guidance, operational support, physical space, and access to finance and networks they need to develop and grow their businesses.
