On 28 November 2024, the “We Matter” project, an initiative by ENL Foundation with the support of MOL Charity Trust, culminated in a certificate ceremony at La Place du Village, Gros Bois. This event celebrated the empowerment of 19 women who achieved economic independence through this initiative.
Launched in January 2024, “We Matter” targeted 19 unemployed women from Le Bouchon, aged between 18 and 55, who were eager to launch their entrepreneurial career despite having limited formal training.
The project supported them through various means:
Alison Phoebe, one of the beneficiaries, shares her journey:
Before the We Matter project, I was uncertain about my future and felt unfulfilled in my job. The project inspired me to pursue my passion in the beauty industry, providing the confidence and resources to start my own business. The training and coaching were invaluable, and I am now equipped to tackle any challenges. I am also sharing my knowledge with the ladies who are collaborating with me. I'm grateful for the financial support and the network of supportive women I have met through the project, which has truly empowered me.
Priscilla Vencatapillay, Women Empowerment Specialist at ENL Foundation and the project leader, shares her insights:
Empowering women is essential for creating long-term, sustainable change. This comprehensive program from training and mentorship, has equipped the ladies with what they need to succeed. Watching them grow in confidence and take on new responsibilities has been incredibly rewarding. Every step they take—whether launching their own business or learning a new skill—represents significant progress for both them and their community."
The We Matter project has made a positive impact in the lives of many ladies in Le Bouchon, providing them with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed. The closing ceremony marked not just the end of a year-long journey, but the beginning of new opportunities for these participants.
