In today's world, inclusivity is not just a value; it's the cornerstone of a thriving society. This commitment is exemplified by the long-standing collaboration between ENL Foundation and the Centre de Solidarité (CDS). Since 2010, they have been working together to support individuals from vulnerable communities. Their collaboration has provided crucial support, skills, and opportunities, helping beneficiaries regain autonomy and dignity.
The Centre de Solidarité stands out in Mauritius for its comprehensive approach to assisting individuals affected by substance abuse. With the support of ENL Foundation, CDS has offered educational, therapeutic, and social services to their beneficiaries and their families that are crucial for comprehensive care and recovery.
Annelise Pigeot, CSR Coordinator at ENL Foundation, reflects on the collaboration:
At ENL Foundation, we design community development programmes with a holistic approach to empowerment, tackling the full spectrum of our beneficiaries' challenges. Our collaboration with CDS amplifies the impact of our efforts across three key pillars: Community Development, Women Empowerment, and Employability.
Spotlight on Aprann 2.0: A gateway to new beginnings
Recently, this collaboration has been furthered through the Aprann 2.0 project, designed by ENL Foundation and financially supported by Oficea. This programme acts as a critical employability booster for untrained and unskilled individuals from vulnerable communities. Aprann 2.0 encompasses a comprehensive strategy that includes psychological preparation, reinforcement of core values and life skills, vocational training, job placement, and on-the-job training. The Aprann 2.0 programme not only equips participants with necessary skills but also actively addresses employment barriers that many from these communities face.
Since November 2024, ten beneficiaries from CDS have actively participated in the Aprann 2.0 programme, engaging in weekly sessions with a coach and receiving specialized training in entrepreneurship, which helps them overcome employment hurdles and fosters self-sufficiency.
Maunique Prosper, Therapeutic Community Lead at the Centre de Solidarité, pinpoints a common challenge:
Many employers hesitate to hire individuals with criminal records. Our focus is on building trust and opening opportunities for our participants.
The programme also helps the beneficiaries explore new possibilities and envision futures previously unimaginable. Supported by the Human Resources teams of ENL and Rogers, they enhance their employability and career prospects. One beneficiary shares their transformative experience:
I’m really happy with the Aprann programme. It taught me vital business skills and gave me the confidence to start my own business. The course was well-explained, answered all our questions, and gave me the courage to start my own business. Thank you.
Looking forward
As ENL Foundation and CDS continue their partnership, they remain dedicated to breaking down barriers and fostering an inclusive society. "We are convinced that this kind of collaboration can inspire other actors in the sector to replicate it in different regions. Together, we can build a healthier, more inclusive society," concludes Annelise Pigeot.
