Health and Safety Officer

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team at Axess Ltd, a leading player in the automotive industry in Mauritius. As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our employees and maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead the Safety Committee and facilitate discussions on safety improvements.
• Inspect and assess the workplace environment, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
• Manage and follow up on risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Recommend preventive and corrective measures to eliminate or reduce hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Coordinate fire drill exercises to ensure the readiness of our emergency response teams.
• Oversee and follow up on medical surveillance in collaboration with our Company doctor.
• Conduct thorough accident investigations using for example RCA method and provide technical recommendations.
• Evaluate workplace conditions, including ventilation, lighting, and other factors affecting employee health and performance.
• Advise on specialized programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, etc..
• Conduct safety induction and training sessions for employees.
• Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures.

Skills Required:

The successful Health and Safety Officer should possess the following skill sets:

• Proficiency in the local Occupational Safety and Health Act and related regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Dynamic, focused, and reliable with strong interpersonal, administration, and communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with supervisors and collaborators.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum qualification: Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health.
• Minimum of 5 years of cumulative work experience in Health & Safety.
