As part of its energy transition efforts, Omnicane is collaborating with Ecoasis on an ambitious solar energy production project in partnership with the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) and the Calycé Group. Ecoasis, the renewable energy arm of the ENL Group, signed a contract with Omnicane on December 12 for the construction of a 4.8 MWp photovoltaic solar farm in Saint Antoine.
This project, supported by the Central Electricity Board’s (CEB) "MSDG Scheme," represents a significant step in Omnicane and MCB's strategy to reduce their carbon footprint while contributing to Mauritius' sustainable development goals. Staying true to its vision of becoming a leader in renewable energy, Ecoasis proudly embraces this project, which is yet another step towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for the country.
According to preliminary estimates, the photovoltaic solar farm will consist of approximately 8,250 solar panels and cover an area of about 4 hectares. Once operational, it will enable Omnicane and MCB to meet a substantial portion of their energy needs. This project is a tangible demonstration of Omnicane and MCB’s commitment to sustainability while reducing reliance on fossil fuel energy sources.
Didier Philogène, CEO of Ecoasis, states:
According to our initial estimates, the solar farm will allow Omnicane and MCB to reduce their CO2 emissions by 7,300 kg annually—a significant reduction equivalent to removing approximately 1,700 cars from the roads each year. This project also enhances their energy autonomy through sustainable and environmentally friendly production."
Ecoasis positions itself as a strategic partner in this large-scale initiative. With its recognised expertise in renewable energy, the company will oversee the construction and commissioning of the solar farm.
This project provides a major opportunity for Ecoasis to materialise its vision, which aligns perfectly with its philosophy. As Didier Philogène emphasised:
We are honoured to play a key role in this emblematic project, which demonstrates our commitment to innovative and renewable solutions. This new venture marks a step forward in reducing the island's carbon footprint while paving the way for a sustainable energy future for generations to come.
Construction of the solar farm is expected to begin in July 2025. Once completed, it will produce a significant amount of green electricity, which will be directly injected into the national grid. This exemplary project reaffirms the commitment of its partners to actively participate in the energy transition and contribute to a more sustainable future for Mauritius.
