ENL & Rogers Groups first Sustainability Summit: It’s all about becoming future-fit

On 7 March 2025, ENL and Rogers Groups hosted their first Sustainability Summit at the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Hotel. Attended by over 100 employees from both groups, the event featured a dynamic mix of keynote addresses and panel discussions to spark conversations on sustainability and inclusive development topics.

Reflecting on ENL & Rogers Groups' strategic Sustainability & Inclusion ambition

In her opening address, Sophie Desvaux de Marigny, Chief Sustainability Executive, presented the Groups’ Sustainability and Inclusion framework, structured around six strategic pillars: energy transition, circular economy, biodiversity, vibrant communities, inclusive development, and diversity & inclusion.

She outlined the Groups’ ambitions for 2035, from reducing emissions and eliminating landfill waste, to empowering 2,000 individuals from vulnerable communities.
Her intervention also highlighted a necessary shift in mindset across the business:

  • From commitments and reporting → to action
  • From stand-alone projects → to operational integration
  • From compliance → to innovation and value creation

Exploring our carbon accounting efforts

Mickaël Apaya, Head of Climate Resilience & Regeneration at ENL & Rogers Groups, delivered a compelling session on the importance of building business resilience in the face of climate change. He stressed the urgency for companies to proactively adapt to a world under growing climate pressure—starting with the identification and analysis of climate-related risks. By quantifying potential financial impacts, especially revenue degradation, and adjusting business models accordingly, businesses can better navigate uncertainty. He added:

By embedding adaptability into our operations, we can strengthen long-term resilience and stay competitive in an increasingly volatile environment.

He also emphasised carbon accounting as a strategic business enabler. With the Traace platform now in place across the Groups, emissions data from scopes 1, 2, and 3 are consolidated to support informed, responsible decision-making. “To thrive in a climate-stressed world, businesses must embed resilience into every layer of their strategy,” he noted.

Deep dives on circular economy

Sophie Desvaux de Marigny reiterated the Group’s commitment to working with suppliers to drive sustainable transformation through the Responsible Sourcing Policy.

Harisha Teeluck, Legal Manager, addressed upcoming environmental legislation and its implications for the business landscape, encouraging proactive adaptation to remain ahead of regulatory trends.

Virginie Corneillet, Chief Legal & Governance Executive, reinforced that strong governance structures are essential to enabling circularity at scale. She stressed the importance of aligning business integrity, traceability, and ethical oversight with sustainability ambitions.

Together, they called for a closer integration between legal, operational, and sustainability teams to ensure that circular practices are not only encouraged — but enabled by design.

Exploring the social landscape in 2025

Priscille Noël, Head of Social Impact at ENL & Rogers Groups, positioned inclusion as both a social and strategic imperative — integral to building a resilient and future-fit organisation. She outlined the role of ENL Foundation and Rogers Foundation in supporting vulnerable communities through initiatives in education, capacity-building, and entrepreneurship.

Our aim is to empower—not to assist. We’re focused on creating the conditions for people to take charge of their own development.

A live poll invited the leaders to help shape future social priorities.
The top three initiatives identified were:

  • Job readiness and entrepreneurship programs for youth (16+) and adults in vulnerable situations
  • Workshops for parents covering education, online safety, domestic violence, and peer support
  • Academic support and school supply donations for children at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels

Inclusive communities and workplaces

Two panel sessions further explored social sustainability:

The first, with Joelle Rabot-Honoré, Community Development Specialist at ENL Foundation, Ketty Lim Ka Lan, Events Manager at ENL Property, and Corinne Stoutenbeek, Project Manager at ENL & Rogers Groups. The panelists highlighted the importance of creating vibrant communities, ENL Foundation’s role in the communities where the two groups operate and the importance of empowering communities, enabling them to be autonomous.

The second panel, with Shyama Soondur, Chief Culture & Inclusion Executive at ENL & Rogers Groups, Laurent Felix, Leader Human Resources at Decathlon Maurice, and Manish Bundhun, Chief People Executive at ENL & Rogers Groups, explored creating inclusive workplaces, the groups initiatives and how diversity drives innovation, productivity, and employee satisfaction.

Tackling coastal erosion: Understanding the stakes and strategies

A key topic was coastal erosion, a concern for Mauritius. The panel brought together Stéphane Poupinel de Valencé, CEO of Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, Philippe Espitalier Noël, CEO of Rogers Group, and Stéphanie Oudin from ADF - Agence Française de Développement.

They discussed the progressive retreat of the trait de côte (shoreline), driven by beach erosion, submersion, and increased flood risks. These impacts call for a shift toward integrated and holistic management approaches that balance environmental protection, economic interests, and community resilience to ensure the long-term sustainability of coastal areas.

Energy resilience: Building a sustainable future

The session also addressed energy resilience as a key pillar of climate adaptation. Within the Groups, major players such as Suntricity, EnVolt, and Ecoasis are seizing business opportunities linked to the energy transition.

Roy Ittoo, Head of Operations at Ecoasis, shared how the Groups are scaling up renewable energy through solar PV projects across its portfolio.

Similarly, Antish Seegobin, Operational Excellence Manager at Ascencia, illustrated how ambition is being translated into action through solar installations in multiple shopping malls and the use of real-time energy dashboards to monitor and optimise performance.

Together, these actors demonstrate the strength of integrated partnerships in advancing energy efficiency and sustainable innovation across the Group's operations.

Becoming Future Fit

Closing the summit, Philippe Espitalier Noël, CEO of Rogers Group, urged employees to meet the challenges ahead with clarity, courage, and collective action.

The environmental and social challenges we face are real. Climate change, biodiversity loss, inequality — these are not future threats; they are today’s realities. And they require each of us to step up.

He called on the audience to move from intention to action, embedding sustainability into decisions, leadership, and everyday work.

Leadership today is not just about performance. It’s about how we care—for our people, our communities, and our planet. Let’s be the company that leads by example, that acts with integrity, and that’s remembered for making a difference.

His closing remarks reinforced a key theme of the summit: that the journey toward sustainability and inclusion must be shared—and that every role, every decision, and every action counts.
